Our Cosmetic Standards

  • OUR COSMETIC STANDARD

At Michael Difazio Reclaim Artistry Inc, we take great pride in each and every unique piece of solid furniture we sell. Our furniture is handcrafted and professionally finished by our team and built using solid wood that is distressed and has a reclaimed look.

Given the handmade and hand-finished nature of the products we craft, variations and imperfections in the wood should be expected and celebrated! Just as every tree is unique, so too is every piece of furniture that is handcrafted and hand finished just for you.

Original character marks such as dents, nail holes, cracks etc may be present in the finished product to preserve the history and story of the materials.

The wood we use is a living material that expands and contracts with seasonal changes. The natural process of expansion and contraction can create open joints in the construction and in the material itself. An open joint line related to expansion or contraction will not affect the structural integrity of the project.

It is highly recommended that the temperature and humidity in your environment is controlled to prevent fluctuations that may cause wood to crack. Any excess moisture should be wiped off from surfaces as soon as possible.

Please read through our cosmetic standards below before placing an order with us.

NOTE: By placing an order with us, you are agreeing that you understand and agree with the conditions of these cosmetic standards

  • WOOD & STAIN VARIATIONS

Every piece of furniture will have a unique grain pattern and slight colour variation as a result of the grain pattern. We cannot guarantee exact stain matches to other tables we've done in the past. Wood has a mind of its own and every piece of wood accepts stain differently. We cannot control it. We will use the correct stain or paint colour that you requested for your order, but there is a chance the colour will vary slightly from the table or picture you were thinking of when you placed the order. This is normal. We cannot rework the finishing on your table to get a perfect match.

  • MATCHING STAIN COLORS

We do NOT match stain colors off of photos. The only way we can do any type of custom stain color for you is if you bring us the stain yourself and tell us which type of wood to use. All wood types receive stains differently. Once you bring us the stain and tell us which wood to use, we will do what you've asked, however - we cannot rework staining that did not come out exactly as you had in mind. Why? Because - every piece of wood has a unique grain pattern and there will always be slight color variations.

You may ask, "Well, the furniture I see on Wayfair and in Costco has 100% consistency in color. Also, the top and base perfectly match. Why can't you guys do that?" The answer would be that most big box stores are machine manufacturing mass-produced furniture using subpar wood coated with laminate or veneer. These very thin top coats are made to be perfectly consistent, so they aren't subject to much variation in the finish.

While there are definitely objective aspects that make a good finish job, perfectly matching colors is a subjective goal that's even affected by things out of our control like the lighting in your home. What may look grey under cool light may look greyish-brown under warm light. Ultimately, we cannot rework the finish on your table to achieve what you may deem a perfect match.

  • WOOD MOVEMENT

Solid wood expands and contracts due to changes in temperature and humidity. This is normal and expected. Such movement may cause the gaps between the boards of a seamed tabletop to widen over time. This natural movement does not affect the structural integrity and is not considered defective. It truly enhances the one-of-a-kind beauty and character of handcrafted solid-wood furniture.

  • GENERAL VARIATIONS IN FURNITURE

Other characteristics of handcrafted, solid wood furniture include open knots, visible brush strokes, micro-imperfections and textural variations in the durable, hand brushed finishes, unique distress marks, exposed screws, wood filler marks, joint lines, and distinctive nicks, splits, cracks, and other imperfections. We allow up to approximately 1" of variation across all measurements due to the custom nature of the handcrafted furniture we build.

Those who do not appreciate variations and imperfections should not purchase handcrafted furniture.

Solid wood may expand and contract due to changes in temperature and humidity. This means that the gaps between the boards of a traditional table top may get wider over time and will need to be cleaned. This natural movement enhances the one of a kind beauty of solid wood, handcrafted furniture. It does not affect structural integrity and is not considered defective.

You will still see the beautiful and natural open knots on jointed table tops. We do not offer machine manufactured perfection - no two pieces are exactly alike since our furniture is crafted to your order specifications.

We celebrate the true uniqueness of every piece of solid wood furniture that is built and finished by hand in our wood shop. It is our hope that you will as well.

  • LEAD TIMES

With your order you were given a lead time. With over 50+ orders in our queue at any given time, lead times are PURELY ESTIMATES. We have been known to get orders complete and to customers before the estimated lead time given and there have also been issues that have happened in production that delayed orders beyond lead times. The lead time that we have given you is our best guess at when you will get your project. It's better to get it a few weeks later than quoted and it be up to quality standards since you plan to have it for years to come, then it is to get it on time and it fails quality standards. We cannot guarantee a specific delivery date. Please know this if you're placing an order with us in hopes of getting it for a special occasion such as a party, birthday, holiday, etc... We will always do our best to accommodate, but we cannot guarantee anything in terms of delivery date. Please understand this before placing an order with us.

  • INSTALLATION

Michael Difazio Reclaim Artistry does not do any form of installation. Anything that needs to be cut to fit, or installed in your house or business is not the responsibility of our shop. The companies we refer to you, are only recommendations to make sure that we are not leaving you in the dark in regards to the installation of your projects.

These contractors are not in any way shape or form employees of Michael Difazio Reclaim Artistry. Please do not feel like you NEED to work with the referred companies If you are handy enough to install yourself or if you know anyone that you'd like to install it for you by all means have at it!

Our shop is not responsible for the modifications (if necessary) the installer will need to make to install your project for you.

As a shop we do not markup, take a cut, make a commission or make any type of income from the work these installers are doing for you. With that being said, once we deliver your project to you our job is completely finished! At this point we would need to settle up for the project that has been delivered.

  • CARE & MAINTENANCE

Depending on the type of finish we apply to your furniture, there may be specific methods you need to follow in order to protect, clean, and maintain the finish. This is normal with any type of furniture. No matter the type of finish, surfaces get scuffed, scratched, and dirty. Wood can also dry out.

When you receive your furniture, we'll provide you with resources that explain how to care for your new piece. Please adhere to those recommendations. If you do not provide the proper care or you clean the furniture with improper cleaning materials, you may experience faster wear and tear. We cannot be held responsible for damages due to improper maintenance.
